People are invited to have their say on how to identify suitable sites for the development of new homes and businesses across West Northamptonshire over the next 30 years.

Daventry District Council, Northampton Borough Council, South Northamptonshire Council and Northamptonshire County Council are working together on the West Northamptonshire Strategic Plan, which will set out the direction of economic and population growth for the area up to the year 2050.

The plan will be supported by the West Northamptonshire Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SLAA), which will be used to help determine the suitability of potential development sites to meet that growth.

A draft methodology for creating the SLAA has been produced and people are invited to comment on it during a six-week consultation.

People can view the draft methodology and have their say on the West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit website

The deadline for comments is 5pm on Friday 27 March.

Background

The West Northamptonshire Strategic Plan follows on from the West Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy published five years ago, and which needs updating to reflect revised national policies and changing local circumstances.

These include plans for a new West Northamptonshire unitary authority and the area’s location within the Oxford-Cambridge Arc which the government has identified as an area of significant economic potential.

Colin Staves, Principal Spatial Planner at the West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit, said: “The Strategic Plan will provide a vision for the growth of West Northamptonshire over the next 30 years, and we are keen for residents to get involved at every stage in its development.

“The Strategic Land Availability Assessment is an important element of the Plan and this consultation is an opportunity for people to have a say on the sort of approach it should take. Please share your views with us so they can be taken into account as we move forward.”
