A fun event in Daventry town centre this month will shine a spotlight on the many sports clubs and activities in our District.
Sportfest takes place at the New Street Recreation Ground on Saturday 15 June from 11am to 4pm and features a range of fun sports and activities to try out.
There will be a sports village giving visitors a chance to chat to representatives from a variety of local clubs, while Danny Butler’s Extreme Mountain Bike Show is set to wow crowds with some spectacular stunts and tricks.
Those who fancy getting in the saddle themselves can try out a range of weird and wonderful bikes, race against friends on a bicycle-powered Scalextric set, or use pedal power to blend a delicious fruit smoothie.
The event also features a cycling hub offering free bike checks, an exhibition area featuring sporting demonstrations, stalls with information on health and wellbeing, and an entertainment zone.
The event has been organised by Daventry District Council and Everyone Active in partnership with Northamptonshire Highways, Cycle Northants and Daventry Cycling Club and aims to continue the legacy of the Women's Tour cycle race, which visited the District in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Councillor Alan Hills, Community, Culture and Leisure Portfolio Holder on Daventry District Council, said: “Among the many benefits of hosting the Women’s Tour in our District was the opportunity to inspire people to take up sport and physical activity.
“Our annual Sportfest event aims to capitalise on that by offering residents a chance to meet representatives from their local sports clubs, so they can discover the many opportunities there are to get active in our District.
“It has been growing in popularity each year, and I’m very much looking forward to welcoming people to what promises to be another fantastic community event.”
