Put on your running shoes, find your swim cap and get on your bike - the Viridian Daventry Triathlon is back for 2017!

Entries are open for the sprint distance race taking place in Daventry on Sunday 17 September, with this year’s triathlon supporting The Air Ambulance Service and Genetic Disorders UK charities.

The race, now in its sixth year, is shaping up to be one of the biggest events in the regional sporting calendar attracting several hundreds of people.

Organised by the Rugby Triathlon Club and sponsored locally by Sheaf Street Health Store and Viridian Nutrition, the sprint race offers individuals and relay teams a triathlon challenge involving:

•400m pool swim in Daventry Leisure Centre

•20km bike leg through the rolling Northamptonshire Countryside

•5km run around the scenic Daventry Country Park.

Garry Haynes, Race Director at Rugby Triathlon Club, said: “The Viridian Daventry Triathlon is very ‘novice-friendly’ but also offers challenges to the more experienced triathlete.

“However, for those that don’t feel up to completing all three parts of a full sprint triathlon there is the option to grab two friends or colleagues and form a relay team. This means that one individual swims, one cycles and one runs.”

Shaun Higgs, co-owner of Sheaf Street Health Store, said: “Our store is a community hub, where people in the area can receive help and advice in improving their health and wellbeing, so it makes sense for us to support the Viridian Daventry Triathlon.

“This is a great opportunity for residents of all capabilities in the Daventry area to get fit and support two worthy causes. I would encourage people to have a tri!”

Councillor Alan Hills, Community, Culture & Leisure Portfolio Holder at Daventry District Council which is supporting the event, said: “It has been great to see the triathlon go from strength to strength over the past few years and following on from the Women’s Tour Grand Depart this June, it’s another fantastic sporting boost for Daventry District. I would encourage people to turn out on the day and cheer on the competitors at this fantastic event.”

As a company committed to ethical and green business practices, Viridian Nutrition has produced 100% organic cotton t-shirt and unique medal made from recycled bicycle chain and sustainable bamboo for all finishers. Age category prizes will be awarded.

Spaces are available for 350 competitors, so don’t delay and sign yourself up today here: Viridian Daventry Triathlon 2017
