Dog owners are urged not to let their pets swim in Daventry Country Park's reservoir or drink from the shore as the Canal & River Trust have detected blue-green algae in the water. Warning signs have been put up around the park.

The algae produces toxins which can cause serious harm to animals that drink it and skin irritations to those who come into contact with it. Blue-green algae can also cause skin rashes, sickness, stomach pains, fever and headaches in humans.

More information on blue-green algae and its danger to dogs is available on the Blue Cross website.
