Best foot forward as councillor takes on charity challenge

A District Councillor will be pounding the pavements of Daventry this summer for a walking challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Councillor Sean Connors is planning to walk one million steps between July 1 and August 31 for the charity - that’s about 16,000 steps or eight miles a day and the equivalent of walking from Daventry to Dingwall in the Highlands of Scotland.

He is taking on the challenge in support of the Chairman of Daventry District Council, David James, who is fundraising for Macmillan during his year in office.

Councillor Connors, who has represented Drayton Ward on the council since 2014, said: “Every person at some point in their life is affected by cancer, whether that’s personally or through a family member or friend, so I wanted to do what I can to support this charity.

“I think it’s important in life to stretch yourself and give back what you can. This will be a difficult personal challenge for me - I can't afford a lazy day and I must push myself. But this will be the most active I've been in years and that's a very good thing indeed.”
