Council services

Council service updates

Daventry District Council is working with NHS, Public Health and other partners in Northamptonshire to take all the necessary steps to ensure we are well prepared as the situation evolves.

Service changes

Please note: Our dedicated members of staff are working as hard as possible during this period to continue to deliver essential services. However measures being taken to reduce all but essential contact mean we are also having to work differently, in order to minimise risk to both the public and our staff.

This means it may take a bit longer than normal to deal with any enquiries you may have. However please be assured that we will make sure that any enquiries you make with us will be dealt with as soon as we can.

You can view a summary of the changes that we are making to services during this period below.

Customer services

  • Face-to-face enquiries: Please be aware that our offices are only open to people who are: Homeless; Threatened with homelessness; In need of a food bank referral; Accessing Children & Young People's services; Accessing the job centre; Vulnerable and in need of help with Universal Credit.  Please come to the front door and a member of staff will speak to you from a safe distance. If you need to enter the offices for further assistance you will be asked to wash your hands first using the facilities provided. If you have essential documents to drop off these will be scanned and returned to you while you while you wait outside.  Find out more about the other ways to contact us
  • Benefits customers: If you have an enquiry about your benefits or applying for benefits or if you have been asked to supply evidence for a claim you can email us at  benefits@daventrydc.gov.uk.  You can also post this evidence for a claim to our offices at Lodge Road. We will accept photos and scanned images of documents.

Leisure services

  • Country Parks, open spaces and play areas: Park grounds and car parks are open, though members of the public must adhere to the social distancing rules and any national restrictions that are in place to ensure everyone's safety while visiting. Barbecues are not allowed at Daventry Country Park.
  • Daventry Leisure Centre is open with some restrictions in place. Visit the Daventry Leisure Centre website for more information.

Housing and homelessness

  • Housing Allocations Scheme: With social housing providers focusing on other priorities during the current situation, there has been a significant reduction in the number of properties being made available in Daventry District. As a result we have made changes to our Housing Allocations Scheme:
To help those most in need, we will allocate the small number of properties that become available by directly matching them with those who are the highest priority on our housing register. This will apply to all those accepted as homeless who have been placed within the Emergency Band, and Band A applicants for whom the Council has accepted a homeless relief duty. Properties will only be advertised to all other applicants where they are not required by those in urgent need. Find out more on our Housing Strategy page
  • Homelessness: New legislation means landlords are required to give tenants six month's notice if they intend to evict them. These measures will remain in place until 31 March 2021 in order to give tenants additional protection during this challenging time. Our Housing Options team would urge anyone issued with a notice of eviction to contact them as soon as possible on homechoice@daventrydc.gov.ukor phone 01327 871100. This will allow the team an opportunity to provide specialist advice as well as give time to find a solution or seek new accommodation. More information can be found on our homelessness pages
  • If you are worried about your housing situation and becoming homeless, please call our Housing Options Team on 01327 871100 or email us at  homechoice@daventrydc.gov.uk. Alternatively, you can register as homeless online
  • Housing advice drop-in sessions in Moulton and a number of locations in Daventry have been suspended until further notice. People in need of housing advice should call the Housing Options Service on 01327 871100 or email  homechoice@daventrydc.gov.uk
  • Care & Repair caseworkers are generally doing their health and wellbeing visits by phoning clients instead.  Some visits will now be conducted face-to-face where the client agrees. The majority of contractors are now operational and those currently working on site are being asked keep up to date on the latest guidance from Public Health England. If caseworkers are needed to consult with contractors and clients, then this will be done over the phone or by video call if possible.  If a site visit is needed, then this will be fully risk assessed on a case by case basis.
  • HMO Licence inspection visits will only be undertaken for serious issues, and we will assess each complaint or request on a case-by-case basis. Where possible we will consider evidence of housing disrepair issues via photograph or via video calls. Landlords and tenants can find out more by emailing environmentalimprovement@daventrydc.gov.uk
  • Housing disrepair issues: Please continue to report any housing disrepair issues to either us or your landlord. We will carry out urgent visits only after a risk assessment has taken place, however we will also assess evidence through video calls or photographs. Please get in touch on 01327 871100 or report on our website.

Environmental Health

  • The Environmental Health Improvement Team will only carry out visits for significant issues, with assessments made on a case-by-case basis. Where possible officers will consider evidence via photograph or video call.
  • Pest control visits are being carried out on a limited basis where it is safe to do so. Please call 01327 871100 to arrange.
  • Community litter picks have been suspended until further notice.

Waste and Recycling

  • Waste and recycling collection services continue as normal. Please make sure you either wear gloves or thoroughly wash your hands before and after touching bin handles. If you are showing symptoms of coronavirus please be very careful when disposing of your personal waste (including used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths/wipes) at home. It should be put in a plastic rubbish bag and tied when full. The plastic bag should then be placed in a second bin bag and tied. It should be kept separate from other waste in suitable secure place on your property for 72 hours before being placed in the black bin as normal.
  • The Terracyle drop-off point for coffee pods has been moved to the rear of the building, next to the deliveries entrance and is open from 10am until 4pm. Please drop packaging into the pallet provided. Please note we can no longer accept empty crisp packets. Please find your nearest crisp packet recycling drop-off point on the Terracycle website

Planning and Land charges

  • Land charges: Requests for this service are still being accepted but please be aware there may be delays in our response time while resources are diverted to essential Council services.
  • Planning changes: New regulations came into force on 20 August 2020 which allow for extensions to planning permissions which have or are due to expire between 23 March 2020 and 31 December 2020. Find out more about planning changes as a result of Covid-19 on our planning pages
  • Pre application planning enquiries: Due to staffing issues as a result of the ongoing Covid 19 situation we are no longer accepting any pre application planning enquiries at the moment until the end of November, but the situation will remain under review.
