Member allowances

To ensure that they are not financially penalised for carrying out their Council duties, Councillors are paid annual allowances for undertaking their Council duties. These allowances are set by the Independent Remuneration Panel and then recommended to the Council for approval.


Members are paid:

  • Basic Allowance -  This is paid to every Councillor in recognition of the time they spend on their duties and to cover any incidental expenses associated with their work.

  • Special Responsibility Allowance - This is paid to Councillors who undertake greater roles within the Council and have additional responsibilities.

  • Expenses, Mileage and Subsistence - The are reimbursed to Councillors as incurred
