Role of the leader

The Leader of the Council is the Leader of the Administration, which is currently the Conservative Party.

The Leader provides political leadership, chairing meetings of the Strategy Group and working together with executive members, known as Portfolio Holders and the Council’s Senior Management Team, sets out the Council’s vision and the strategic plans necessary to help the council achieve them


About Councillor Chris Millar

Chris became a Daventry District Councillor in 1998, representing Long Buckby ward, having previously worked in the banking industry for 25 years.  


He has been Leader of Daventry District Council since August 1999 and is also Chair of the Northamptonshire Waste Partnership - which consists of all district and borough councils and the county council  and Vice-Chair of the Northamptonshire Health and Wellbeing Board.   


Chris is also a member of the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) Board, an Executive Board member of East Midlands Councils and a Local Government Association Member Peer.  


He said: “As Leader of the Council it is my aim to lead on our vision to Build a Better District for residents and visitors alike. Councillors and officers are working hard to ensure that we continue to strive to meet the needs of the many diverse communities who live and work in Daventry District.”
