The Leader of Daventry District Council is Councillor Richard Auger (Con, Welford Ward).

Role of the Leader

The Leader of the Council is the Leader of the Administration, which is currently the Conservative Party.

The Leader provides political leadership, chairing meetings of the Strategy Group and working together with executive members, known as Portfolio Holders and the Council’s Senior Management Team, sets out the Council’s vision and the strategic plans necessary to help the council achieve them.

About Councillor Richard Auger

Richard was elected as a councillor for Welford Ward on the District Council in May 2015 and held the Housing and Environmental Health Portfolio before his appointment as Leader. He also serves as a county councillor for the Daventry West Division.

Before his time as a member of the District Council, Cllr Richard Auger served as a Senior Leader and Commander in the Thames Valley Police and enjoyed an extensive and wide-ranging career. 

During his 30 years’ service he received twelve Commendations (six of them for his involvement in armed police operations) and in 1999 was awarded the prestigious High Sheriff's team award for his leadership and innovative approach to neighbourhood policing. Richard specialised in tactical firearms and has been involved in hundreds of firearms operations.

He became Leader of Daventry District Council on 1 November 2019.
