Waste and recycling arrangements

Collections will take place on their usual days with the exception of Christmas Day. Anyone due a collection on that day should put their bins and boxes out on Christmas Eve instead.

Brown wheelie bin collections will be suspended for two weeks from Christmas Eve and there are arrangements in place to collect large cardboard between Christmas Eve and January 6, as well as real Christmas trees once the brown bin service resumes.

Any missed collections during the period can be reported via our online self-serve system

Visit our Christmas waste and recycling page to find out more information about arrangements in your area.

Daventry District Council office arrangements

Daventry District Council will be closing its offices over Christmas and New Year from 23 December until 2 January.

Essential services, such as waste and recycling collections and street cleaning, will continue over Christmas and arrangements will continue to be in place in the event of an emergency.

Daventry District Council’s offices will close as normal at 4.30pm on Friday 22 December, reopening at 9am on Tuesday, 2 January.

The offices in Lodge Road will still be open to visitors of Jobcentre Plus and Northamptonshire County Council’s Children’s and Young People’s Service, which will each operate different working hours over Christmas.

The Abbey Resource Centre

The Abbey Resource Centre in St John’s Square, Daventry, will be closed for Christmas from Saturday, 23 December.

When it re-opens on Wednesday, 27 December, through until Friday 29 December, it will close at 5pm each day. The Abbey will also be closed from Saturday, 30 December until Tuesday, 2 January.

Daventry Leisure Centre

Daventry Leisure Centre, which is owned by DDC and operated by Everyone Active, is not included in the above Council closure arrangements. Find out the Christmas opening times for Daventry Leisure Centre

Daventry Market

Arrangements for stray dogs

If you have captured a stray dog during the above-mentioned Christmas period, you can take the dog to our kennels at the following address:

Dunsmore Kennels
London Road
Warwickshire, CV23 9HX

The kennels are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, and are open between the hours of 10am to 1pm on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, otherwise they are open to receive strays collected within Daventry District from 9am to 1pm and then 2pm until 5.30pm on week days and Saturdays, and from 10am to 1pm on Sundays.

Dunsmore Kennels can be contacted on 02476 542566.  The Dunsmore Kennels website includes a location map.

If you have captured a stray dog during the evening or at a time when Dunsmore Kennels is not open for business, we would advise you to keep the dog overnight and then contact the kennels on the next working day. Please ensure that you do not put yourself at risk of being bitten or attacked by the dog if you are prepared to secure a dog overnight.
