Planning changes as a result of Covid-19

Sections 17-19 of the Business and Planning Act 2020 came into force on 20 August 2020. This applies to planning permissions (including outline permissions) and listed building consents which have or are due to expire between 23 March 2020 and 31 December 2020 because they have not been started.

The Act automatically grants an extension of time for implementation to 1 May 2021 for those permissions expiring between 19 August 2020 and 31 December 2020. Applicants are not required to take any further action to keep the permission alive but will need to comply with relevant conditions imposed.

For permissions that have expired between 23 March 2020 and 19 August 2020 these will only benefit from the statutory extension to 1 May 2021 where an Additional Environmental Approval (AEA) is granted by the local planning authority (or deemed to be granted).

The Government has set out some useful guidance notes on the changes introduced by the Act

24.  Prior Approval of a Proposed Larger Home Extension

This form can be used to notify Daventry District Council of the intention to build a larger single-storey rear extension as described on the Planning Portal's  Extensions common project page.
