Care & Repair: Testimonials

At Care & Repair we pride ourselves on taking the hard work out of home repairs and adaptations.

But don't take our word for it! Watch the videos below to find out what some of our satisfied clients say about us:

'Don't be afraid to get the help you need' - Sameer Mirza

Sameer Mirza suffers from osteoarthritis in his back and knees and was struggling to use his bathroom, a problem which became worse after he suffered a bad fall.

He was referred to Care & Repair through his occupational therapist, and our team was able to help him replace his bathroom with a wet room.

The work was funded by a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) which provides up to £30,000 to help people with a disability make necessary adaptations to their homes.

"I'm very pleased with the wet room," said Mr Mirza.

It's so easy to have a shower now. It's so convenient. A lot of people don't know about the Care & Repair team but they are very good. Sometimes people can be afraid, they worry about how they are going to do the job or how long it will take. But please, I would urge other people in my situation: if you need help, contact Care & Repair."

'It's transformed my life' - Rodney's story

Rodney Tighe had been struggling to use his bath and walk up and down the stairs of his Daventry home up as a result of suffering osteoarthritis in his spine.

The 59-year-old, who lives with his wife of almost 30 years, Pat, even had to be careful when leaving the house due to a large step outside his porch.

But he says his life has been transformed thanks to Care & Repair, who helped him secure a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) to pay for a new wet room with level-access shower, a stairlift and a level access ramp outside the property.

He said: “A friend recommended Care & Repair to me so I gave them a call. The process was so easy – my caseworker Amy explained everything to me at every step and helped me apply for the grant.

“The contractors who came out were great - the man who put in the stair lift in particular. It’s a curved staircase and there’s not much room on the landing but he found a way around it and nothing was too much trouble for him.

“I would never have been able to afford to do the work myself so Care & Repair helped me a great deal. They’ve totally changed my life – everything is so much easier for me now.”

'A fantastic job - I'm delighted!' - Margaret Matthews

District resident Margaret Matthews is the proud owner of a new fully-accessible bathroom thanks to a Disabled Facilities Grant and support from Care & Repair Daventry District.

Mrs Matthews was struggling to get in and out of the bath at her home in Braunston due to arthritis in her hips and crumbling of the spine.

But she is now finding life far easier after Care & Repair helped her secure a grant to adapt her bathroom, creating a new wet room with level-access shower.

The work was recommended following a visit by an occupational therapist arranged by Care & Repair. Our caseworker then helped Mrs Matthews apply for the grant, before arranging for reputable contractors to provide a quote for the work as well as helping her select a workman she was comfortable with.

“The bathroom’s a completely new room now, I think it’s wonderful,” said Mrs Matthews. “I’m delighted with it, and I haven’t had a better workman here too. He did a fantastic job.”

'It was so easy' - Lorna's story

Lorna Tracy’s damp, draughty cottage was transformed into a wonderful snug home over the past few years thanks to Home Repairs Assistance (HRA) grants and an interest-free top-up loan.

She was able to fix damp problems, install new windows and guttering, and repair a leaky roof with support from Care & Repair Daventry District.

With her limited income, Lorna would have struggled to afford the work on her own, but because she receives Pension Credit she was eligible for the HRA grant.

Lorna said: “It’s so easy. You just phone Care & Repair and they come and visit you at home to identify the work that might be needed and check whether you are eligible for the grant.

“All of the hard work is done for you.  You don’t have all the hassle of finding people to give you quotes, or organise the work, as Care & Repair sorts it all for you and takes the stress away."
