Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction Scheme
If you know or even suspect that someone is claiming Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction Scheme which they aren't entitled to, please report it.
This can be done by various methods of contact as follows:
Telephone: Please contact the National Benefit Fraud Hotline on 0800 854 440. Your call is free and confidential and you do not have to give your name or address. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 6.00pm.
Textphone: If you have speech or hearing problems you can use a text phone service on 0800 328 0512.
Online: Please go to www.gov.uk/report-benefit-fraud to report fraud online.
Post: Please post all information to NBFH, PO Box 224 Preston, PR1 1GP.
Council Tax Reduction Scheme only
If you know or suspect someone is claiming Council Tax Reduction only, as they are a homeowner and you don't think they are entitled to receive this please go to email@example.com report it online.
Examples of fraud might be:
- Working and still claiming Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance.
- Claiming benefit for a property when they are not living there.
- Not telling us they have a private pension.
- Not declaring any, or all, of their savings
- Not declaring a partner living with them
Council Tax Discount Fraud
People who live alone can claim a 25% discount on their Council Tax bill, it doesn't matter how much income or savings they have. There is potential to fraudulently claim this discount. If you know someone who claims this discount but doesn't live alone, please tell us (people under 18 don't count).
