iCon Innovation Centre
The iCon Centre opened to the public in May 2011. The facility, at Eastern Way based at the edge of Daventry town centre, is a national centre of excellence in sustainable construction. At the same time, the building is a major resource for local events.
The award-winning 4,000m² iCon building offers 60 business incubator units, a conference room and theatre for up to 300 people, exhibition space, meeting rooms and a café which is open to the public. It is also a leading example of energy efficiency and a sustainable building in its own right.
Funding for the iCon, which cost a total of £9 million, was provided by East Midlands Development Agency (emda), the European Regional Development Fund and West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC).
Land was provided by Daventry District Council and Northamptonshire County Council. Its concept design was by Consarc and the detailed design and construction by Northamptonshire based contractors, Winvic Build.
The iCon is operated by the University of Northampton, working with a group of Universities and the UK Building Research Establishment.
