Child Employment  - Young Persons At Work

Young people do not have experience of hazards in work places and so are more vulnerable to accidents and illnesses.  We would expect there to be excellent levels of supervision of children and young people and controls over what they can / cannot do. For instance a young person of 14 years SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED to clean a bacon slicer, or work from a ladder.


There are a number of laws that must be complied with in relation to the employment of children.  

 

As an employer, you must carry out risk Assessments and share these with the parents/guardians of young people.  See the Health and Safety Executive Website - Young People Page for more information.
