Fresh images have been unveiled to the public of how Daventry’s University Technical College (UTC) will look.
Residents got a first glimpse of new computer-generated images of the UTC during a public consultation event at Daventry Leisure Centre on Tuesday, May 22.
The artist’s impressions have been produced by national construction company Shepherd, who were this week chosen as the preferred contractor to develop plans to deliver the UTC on land off Ashby Road, Daventry.
The company are expert constructors in the education field, with a history of working successfully in the East Midlands area on projects such as Northampton School for Boys, RNIB Pears Centre for Specialist Learning in Coventry, Nene College and Hazeley Secondary School in Milton Keynes.
Within Shepherd’s team selection for the UTC are award-winning designers Mentor, a division of the renowned FaulknerBrowns architects, world-leading multi-discipline engineers Buro Happold and landscape architects Colour Urban, which worked with Mentor on the East Northamptonshire Leisure Centre.
Construction work is scheduled to begin on site this autumn, with the UTC due to open its doors to its first students in September 2013. A planning application is due to be submitted early this summer and residents’ feedback on the proposals at today’s consultation event will be considered ahead of its submission.
Ian Vincent, Chief Executive of Daventry District Council, said: “These new images give a real feel for how Daventry’s new UTC will look. They follow a vigorous design development stage to select a contractor that will take this innovative scheme forward and all partners are now looking forward to working closely with Shepherd on preparing for a start on site later this year.”
Chris Moody, chair of UTC Board of Governors said: “The Daventry UTC will provide an outstanding educational experience, which focuses upon new technologies.
“This will lead to real employment opportunities in the future for up to 600 students between the ages of 14 and 19. Students will have the opportunity to work with the sponsors, Moulton College and The University of Northampton, as well as gaining valuable work experience with employers such as Cummins Ltd, Cosworth, DHL, ProLogis, Hi-Force and SDC.
“These exciting designs created by FaulknerBrowns in conjunction with Shepherd should ensure that the students have a first class environment in which to learn.”
