Visitors will be able to enjoy a free workout in the beautiful surroundings of Daventry Country Park when a new outdoor gym is installed this spring.
A new fitness trail will be set up in the park’s Northern Field consisting of eight pieces of gym equipment. The cardiovascular equipment will include a rowing machine, leg press, cross rider, air walker, skier, cycle, body twist and horse rider. It is suitable for use by anyone over the age of seven.
The gym equipment will be installed in early March and will be available to use by members of the public later that month.
Councillor Alan Hills, Portfolio Holder for Community, Culture and Leisure at Daventry District Council, said: “This new equipment will enable users to increase their fitness levels and have lots of fun at the same time.
“We’ve received feedback that people want more activities and equipment for older children at the country park, so this will give them something to do and hopefully also help to improve fitness levels.
“It’s available for anyone to use completely for free so I would recommend paying a visit to our country park and giving it a go!”
The equipment has been paid for from Daventry District Council’s Second Homes funding, which has come from the reduction of the Council Tax discount on second homes from 50% to 10% across the county.
An agreement between Daventry District Council and Northamptonshire County Council means the money generated will be used to support local community projects and initiatives in the district.
