 Elections - voting

Register of Electors

Make sure you are registered to vote! Your vote, your voice

You can only vote if you are aged 18 or over and your name is on the Register of Electors.  The Register of Electors is a list of those adults living within the District who are entitled to vote in some or all types of Elections. It is updated annually, using details from the registration form which is sent to every property within the District each autumn. In addition to this annual process, there is a rolling registration system, which allows the Council to update the Register throughout the year on a monthly basis. However the monthly updating of the Register of Electors stops between 10th August and 1st December while the Annual registration process takes place. If you have moved house recently or are not already registered to vote, please telephone the Council on (01327) 871100 and staff will be happy to progress your application by way of the rolling registration process. Alternatively click on the following link to access the self service option Electoral Register Application Form.  Follow the instructions on the screen and on the third page click the Elections and voting button.

The Council keeps two versions of the current Register of Electors - the full register and an edited register.  You may elect to have your name removed from the edited register if you wish.

Being registered for council tax does not mean that people are registered to vote, as the law requires that the two systems are maintained separately. Not being on the electoral register may also mean that people could have difficulty in obtaining credit, as one of the first checks made by lenders is whether applicants are registered at the address given.

There are special rules about names being added to the voters list during an election period.  As a consequence you may not be able to vote at that election if you are added during this time.  The deadline for registering to vote is the 18th April.

Publication of Revised Register of Electors - A revised version of the Register of Electors for Daventry District Council was published on the 1 March 2012 and incorporated the changes to Wards & Polling Districts implemented in accordance with the Daventry (Electoral Changes) Order 2012.
