Young helpers getting ready for Daventry show

Farming machinery from days gone by was given a wash and polish by pupils at a Daventry school gearing up for a popular show.

Daventry Agricultural Machinery Show is being hosted by Daventry District Council at the town’s country park on the weekend of June 28 and 29, showcasing a unique collection of tractors, engines and other contraptions.

The event is being organised by machinery enthusiast Pete Groves, of Everdon, who this week visited Badby school with Daventry District Council senior countryside ranger Dewi Morris to get some help shining up an old stationary belt-drive engine.

Young pupils at the school pitched in to help and learn a bit more about old farming machinery in the process.

“Visitors to the show will be able to see at close quarters lots of machines that helped shape the countryside we see around Daventry today,” said Pete, who has been collecting old machinery for about 10 years.

“The children were a great help and it also gave them the chance to get a sneak preview of the show.”

Admission to the event, which runs from 10am to 5pm on both days, is free. As well as an assortment of working machines with both static and mobile displays, there will be other attractions like a climbing wall and bike skills sessions.

"We are really looking forward to hosting this traditional country show,” added Dewi.

“We hope that visitors of all ages will come away from the show with a better understanding of what it took to make our landscape the way it is today. I am sure that the machines will be looking magnificent and true testaments to engineering at its best."
