Work to complete areas of open space in Middlemore with cycle tracks, nature trails and play areas for youngsters will start on Monday, November 10.
A 460 metre cycle track will be built through The Vale open space, from the top of The Vale, opposite the Middlemore Arms pub, to the south-eastern corner of the development on Ashby Road.
Recreational trails will be laid along the south and western borders of the development to provide all-weather recreational walking routes for residents, and will be approximately 1600 metres long.
Two play areas will also be built as part of the scheme. At the top of The Vale, new play equipment including a multi-play unit, cable zip slide and a pendulum swing will be installed along with special safety surfacing to protect anyone who falls. There are also future plans for a ball-play area at the bottom of The Vale.
The main contractor for the project, which is expected to take four months and be completed in early March, will be Burnham Landscapes of Daventry, while the play equipment will be supplied by Wicksteed Leisure of Kettering.
The £350,000 scheme is the first phase of works to create new play areas, nature trails and cycleways as part of the development of the Middlemore estate.
Managing Director Simon Bovey said: “These new recreational facilities in the Middlemore estate will give existing residents the chance to explore the area in which they live and get fitter at the same time.
“Future residents of Middlemore will be able to similarly enjoy the community they will move into.”
