Run for the Children in Daventry

Hundreds of children are expected to be running around Borough Hill in Daventry later this month to raise money for brain damaged youngsters.

The family running event on July 19 is organised by Run for the Children, a national fitness initiative, which aims to get children and their families running together and raising money for charity.

The three kilometre run in the park, which starts at 11am and is being backed by Daventry District Council, is just one of the aspects of the initiative which also offers a Fit for Fun Action Pack, written in conjunction with Runners World and full of tips on how to lead a healthier lifestyle.

After the run, other activities will include a bouncy castle and face painters, which will be held on the fields at Danetre School, in Hawke Road, as part of the Southbrook community day, Fete in the Field.

Evonne Carr, Recreation Officer for Daventry District Council, said: “Encouraging children to get out and exercise is vital to ensure they stay healthy and have an interest in sporting activities as they grow older.

“The Run for the Children combines this important message with fund-raising for charity and we hope that lots of people will join us on the day.”

Each Run for the Children event is based on a partnership between the Council and its sports development team, the local schools and a running club.  All entrants are encouraged to raise sponsorship for the official charity, The Children’s Trust.

Annabel Anderson, National Organiser of Run for the Children said: “We are delighted to be welcomed into Borough Hill for this event.

“Showing children the benefits of a healthy lifestyle is so important and this is a great opportunity to do something for charity at the same time.”
