Recycle your festive waste this Christmas

Residents in Daventry district are being reminded that there are now even more ways to recycle their Christmas waste over the festive period.

Any cardboard that builds up over Christmas should be flat packed and put in the brown bin. If the bin is full any extra can be placed next to the bin, ensuring it’s secured and will not blow around, for the first collection after the holiday. Brown envelopes without windows can now go in the brown bin.

The red box is still available for the recycling of paper but for the first time greetings cards, wrapping paper, and white envelopes including those with windows can be taken.

Plastic bottles, cans, glass, and empty aerosols will continue to be collected in the blue box.

Catherine Boardman, portfolio holder for Environment, said: “Most people over the Christmas period find themselves with much more rubbish than at any other time during the year.

“However now that we are providing recycling facilities for wrapping paper, envelopes and greetings cards, it is the perfect opportunity to ensure nothing goes to waste this Christmas.”
