Visitors to this website are being urged to join in a day of eco-friendly activities.
People can calculate their carbon footprint, organise a community spring clean, download green checklists and find out more eco events as part of Connect to Your Council Day on Wednesday, May 7.
A link on this site’s homepage will take residents to checklist of green initiatives in which they can become involved, from handy hints on saving water and blocking junk mail to information on activities such as Compost Awareness Week (May 3-10).
Among those joining in the activities are children from St James’ and Ashby Fields schools, who have been learning about composting in the community garden in Welton Road, Daventry. Residents will be able to turn up and take part in Master Composting sessions at the garden, on May 7 from 4pm to 7pm.
Simon Bovey, Managing Director of Daventry District Council, said: “Even the smallest actions to save energy and reduce waste can make a big difference, but they don’t always spring to mind. It could be buying a composting bin or simply remembering to switch off a light.
“By logging on to our website, residents can access a wealth of free information on council services, including the simple steps they can take to lead a greener lifestyle.”
Daventry District Council offers a range of environmental services on its website, from reporting dog fouling, flytipping, and streets that need cleaning to advice and information on energy efficiency and recycling issues.
The ‘Connect To Your Council Day’ is part of Communities and Local Government’s Take-Up Campaign, which aims to encourage citizens to put themselves in control by accessing their local authority services online - anytime, anywhere.
