Residents to give their views on Daventry town centre

Car parking, public toilets and Daventry’s market are some of the issues under the spotlight in a new annual town centre survey for shoppers.

Daventry District Council is launching the survey this week to find out what people think of the town centre and the services the Council provides there. Shoppers will be asked to take part in a questionnaire to rate their satisfaction on a range of issues, including:

·        The Tuesday and Friday markets and the monthly farmers’ markets

·        Public toilets

·        Town centre car parks

·        Safety in the town centre both during the day and after dark

·        Town centre facilities in general.

Market Research Company Foster and Brown Research will be conducting the survey on behalf of the council on August 8th and 9th. The survey will then be staged annually to identify how the council is performing in the town centre and areas for improvement. It will also help to shape the council’s vision for the town centre and its objectives to attract more custom and enhance shopping, cultural and leisure amentities for residents and visitors.

Councillor Chris Millar, Leader of Daventry District Council, said: “A more vibrant town centre is at the heart of the council’s agenda and this survey will play an important role in charting our progress towards achieving this and looking at ways of increasing footfall in the town centre.

“It’s important that we regularly speak to residents to make sure the services we are providing are what people want. We want to know what people think about town centre facilities, their perception of public safety and how they rate the experience of visiting the heart of Daventry. The questionnaires completed by residents with our market researchers are  strictly confidential and will prove invaluable in shaping the services we provide.”

Among the top priorities for Daventry District Council over the next three years include attracting more custom to Daventry town centre, the availability of more skilled employment for residents, reducing waste and energy use, cleaner open spaces and for residents to feel the district is a safe place to live.
