A comprehensive directory of resources to help people who are homeless is being launched jointly by Daventry District Council and South Northamptonshire Council.
The directory pulls together contacts for hundreds of relevant agencies, including advice bureaux, local authorities, housing associations, care charities and short-term accommodation options, all of whom are able to help those who find themselves without somewhere to live
Available on the internet, it is being highlighted to agencies across the Daventry and South Northamptonshire areas who may come into contact with people who are threatened with homelessness to enable them to quickly and easily access the appropriate organisations which might be able to help.
A limited number of hard copies are also available and anyone will be able to access the information on the internet, with free access available at local libraries and council offices.
“We have worked closely with South Northamptonshire Council to pull together this resource which we hope will be invaluable in helping those who are facing homelessness in the area,” said Councillor Steve Osborne, Housing and Health Portfolio Holder with Daventry District Council.
“The need for a directory was identified during a review of homelessness services in each district and it was decided to combine resources and information in order to maximise the usefulness of such a document. It also forms part of out Homelessness Strategy to tackle the issue head-on.
“The directory is available on each council’s website, which makes it readily accessible and up to date as new information can be added as required.
“It includes all the relevant agencies that offer help and advice to people who may be homeless and includes a summary of what services they offer, along with opening times and contact details.
Councillor Mary Clarke, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Enterprise and Growthat South Northamptonshire Council, added: “This is a further illustration of clear partnership working between both South Northamptonshire Council and Daventry District Council, and by pulling together this resource we hope that it will prove to be an invaluable tool to those facing homelessness in the area.
“We hope that it will increase awareness of local services, and enable people to get help at an early stage to prevent them becoming homeless.”
