Schools in Daventry district have joined in the campaign to tackle litter and graffiti.
Pupils put colouring pens to paper to design a new calendar to raise public awareness of the issues. Daventry District Council ran a competition with several schools to find the best anti-graffiti/litter pictures for the calendar, which are on sale at the council’s offices.
Schools that took part were Moulton Primary School, Falconers Hill Infants, Brixworth Primary School, Southbrook Junior School, Ashby Fields School, Abbey Junior School, West Haddon Primary School, Welford Sibbertoft and Sulby School.
The competition comes as the district council steps up its campaign to tackle environmental crimes, such as graffiti and litter. Under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, the council has powers to issue on-the-spot fines and prosecute offenders.
Councillor Catherine Boardman, Portfolio Holder for Environment at Daventry District Council, said: “It’s great that these youngsters are getting involved to educate others about the problems of litter and graffiti. Raising awareness like this goes a long way in helping to improve the environment where we live.”
The calendar competition winners are: Alicia Dominque, Brixworth School (front cover); Alice Baker, West Haddon School (front cover); Becca Robins, Falconers Hill Infants School (January); Ella Forsythe, Moulton School (February); Caitlin Brown, Abbey Junior School (March); Heather Johnson, Brixworth School (April); Hanna Priest, Moulton School (May); Alex Pearson, Moulton School (June); Chloe Barker-Poole, Abbey Junior School (July); Isobella Moores, Welford Sibbertoft School (August); Skye Adkins, Abbey Junior School (September); Molly Lyons, Ashby Fields School (October); Harriet Cant, Welford Sibbertoft School (November) and Mark Hansford, Welford Sibbertoft School (December).
