Youngsters at a Daventry school got creative to learn about renewable energy.
Year Six pupils at Ashby Fields Primary School were visited by two officers from Daventry District Council to find out how they can be more energy efficient and also learnt about different types of green technology, such as solar panels and wind turbines.

They then used their knowledge to create colourful renewable energy posters for the school. Council staff judged the posters and the winner was presented with a prize.

As well as helping to minimise the effects of climate change, the children learned of the financial benefits of saving energy in the home - pupils now know that reduced energy bills could possibly lead to more pocket money!

Alice Pearce, Environmental Coordinator at Daventry District Council, said: “The pupils have produced some fantastic posters and have shown a lot of original thought. This has been useful in getting the pupils to learn more about different types of renewable technologies, which they will see more of in their lifetime.”

The winner of the prize was 10-year-old Paulina Kaminska, who was presented with a solar experiment kit. All pupils and teachers involved with the competition received two low energy light bulbs to take home.
