Event raises heart cash for Valentine’s Day

A Daventry district group is proving it’s all heart this Valentine’s Day by organising a special event to support the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Organised by Daventry District Council and Daventry Active, the Braunston Valentine Appeal is a one-hour led walk starting in the car park of the Mill House in the village on February 14, which is backing BHF’s annual Valentine Appeal

The event will highlight the popular sights of Braunston, including the church, canal and locks, and the marina. All donations received on the day will go to support the BHF appeal which is aiming to raise £1 million for BHF Heart Nurses and the charity’s Heart Help Line to care for and support more heart patients and their families.

Councillor Wendy Amos, Community Portfolio Holder for Daventry District Council, said: “We decided to support the Valentine Appeal after beginning the Daventry Health Walks.

“After the success of the BHF walk in September, which launched Walk Week in Northamptonshire, we felt this was a good cause to raise money for, as well as encouraging people to become more active. Just 30 minutes of activity five times a week is a great way to de-stress and revitalise energy, as well as giving you the opportunity to meet new people.”

There is no need to book for the Braunston event, just turn up for 10.30am wearing suitable clothing and footwear.

Jackie Skeel, Valentine Appeal Manager at the British Heart Foundation, said: “Thanks to Daventry District Council and Daventry Active, the BHF will be able to care for even more heart patients and their families, whether in their homes or on the telephone.

“Everyone can get involved with the campaign so please get your colleagues or friends to take part too and help the BHF make a real difference to heart patients this Valentine’s day.”
