A new partnership to tackle crime and disorder in Daventry and South Northants has been formed through the merger of two organisations.
The Safer Daventry Partnership and South Northamptonshire Community Safety Partnership is now known as Daventry District and South Northamptonshire Safer Stronger Partnership.
It will provide a co-ordinated approach to tackling social issues like crime, anti-social behaviour, alcohol and drug abuse, the environment, repeat offenders, community cohesion and vulnerable young people.
The new organisation – a statutory Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) – is made up of a number of local agencies including Daventry District Council, South Northamptonshire Council, Northamptonshire Police, Northamptonshire County Council, the Probation Service, Northamptonshire Police Authority, Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, local primary care trusts, and the Government Office for the East Midlands.
A number of initiatives fall under the remit of the Safer Stronger Daventry and South Northamptonshire Partnership including the Care and Repair service, which helps older or disabled residents across the area with practical advice and a service to fit things like window locks and smoke detectors, and Time2Talk, a counselling and outreach service for young people.
Chair of the partnership Chief Superintendent Paul Phillips said: “It is a good opportunity to join the partnerships and have a group responsible for Daventry and South Northamptonshire as a whole.
“Both districts have similar issues and this will allow a more joined-up approach from the agencies involved in the partnership which we hope will be a benefit for local residents.”
Ian Vincent, Executive Director at Daventry District Council, a principal partner in the new CDRP, said: “The change will enable us to develop a broader range of integrated strategies aimed at reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, and tackling wider social issues.”
Jean Morgan, Chief Executive of South Northamptonshire Council and also a principal partner in the new CDRP, added: “Daventry and South Northamptonshire make up more than a third of the county and share a lot of the same challenges.Working together, we can look more closely at the issues facing our villages and market towns and work out ways of dealing with them more effectively.”
