Daventry District Council wants to help breathe new life into a run-down industrial estate in the town.

Plans to regenerate parts of the Royal Oak Industrial Estate have taken a major step forward after councillors gave it the go-ahead in October.

Six old units on the site that date back to the 1960s will be demolished to make way for a new purpose-built building with a tenant who will enter into a lease agreement with DDC.

The new building will more than double the floor space on the site, allowing for extra jobs and will also help to boost rental income for the council.

The development, which is expected to cost around £3.3 million, should be completed by 2010.

Councillor Chris Over, Economic and Regeneration Portfolio Holder, said: “The plans to replace some of the worn-out and dated units at the Royal Oak Industrial Estate with a brand new purpose-built building

will help us continue our policy of regeneration.

“It will also breathe some new life into the area, and set a new standard for sustainable commercial building.”
