Time is running out for residents in Southbrook to join in the Dragon’s Den-style competition by coming up with new ways of improving their neighbourhood.

This year’s Take The Hot Seat initiative, by Daventry District Council, comes to an end on June 30 though it is expected to be back for 2009.

Residents who put forward the best ideas to improve the community in one of four categories - environmental, crime reduction, health and regeneration – are invited to “pitch” their idea to a panel of experts and the winning one can then be adopted.

Juan Pardo, Daventry District Council Neighbourhood Officer for Southbrook said: “This scheme follows a similar format to the popular TV show, Dragon’s Den’, where finalists will have the opportunity to make their case to four judges.

“Finalists will have the opportunity to earn £50 for the best idea, while the winning action will be incorporated into the action plan for Southbrook.

“There are only a few weeks left for this year though so we want people to get their ideas in quickly.”

Application forms are available from Southbrook Junior School, Sure Start, in Benbow Close, the general store in Hood Road, Spar in Nelson Close, and Southbrook Community Centre, in Hood Road.

The winner of the competition will be announced at the Fete in the Field community event in Southbrook, which will take place on July 19 between 11am and 4pm at the playfields in Danetre School
