Plans to bring new modern stalls and create more space in Daventry Market are currently underway.
Several traders in the High Street market are using new larger stalls that have been supplied by Daventry District Council every Tuesday and Friday in the first phase of a town centre revamp.
Those traders are also not parking their vehicles in the usual layby but parking elsewhere and positioning their stall further back on the road and not on the pavement. The idea is to give pedestrians more room when they are walking on the pavement on market days.
From December 2 the larger, more flexible continental-style stalls will be used throughout the market. Traders have been consulted over the plans, which will give pedestrians better access in the High Street on market days. The new modern stands are already being successfully used at markets in Nuneaton and Corby.
Simon Bowers, Corporate Manager of Development and Property at Daventry District Council, said: “The current stalls are getting old and at the end of their useful life and the new stalls will give the market an improved appearance, while improving safety.”
