Challenge to improve your patch!

Residents across the Daventry district are being challenged to put forward their nominations for the 2008 Improving Your Patch competition.

The awards, backed by Daventry District Council, are presented by Northamptonshire Environmental Forum in recognition of local initiatives that are improving their neighbourhoods in some way.

This might be anything from a Daventry district residents’ group creating a community garden, to a scout group contributing to a recycling programme.

The competition is open to any type of community group that has worked together to “improve their patch”.

A first prize of £300 will go to the overall winner, £100 will got to each borough or district winner, while £100 is up for grabs for the most inspiring project which has yet to start, and £100 for the best project to tackle climate change.

A long as an entrant can demonstrate the value of a scheme, it does not matter whether it is still on the drawing board or has been up and running for several months.

Former winners include Southbrook Re-Growth team, a group of residents and partners in the Southbrook area of Daventry who joined forced to boost local pride in the area through a tidy-up event.

Closing date for entries is July 20. For more information and an entry form, please contact Alice Pearce, Environmental Co-ordinator at Daventry District Council, on 01327 302253 or email apearce@daventrydc.gov.uk
