Affordable Housing Delivery Programme

Daventry District Council has always been committed to the development of affordable housing, this is reinforced through the 2010-15 Housing Strategy, as well as in our Affordable Housing Communications and Marketing Strategy.

Some of these objectives include:

  • Ensuring that the housing built within the district is need led, especially within rural areas.

  • Introduce a rolling programme of housing needs surveys to allow us to be more proactive in our approach to affordable housing.

  • Continue to work alongside Affordable Housing Providers, Developers. Land agents, Parish Councils etc and continue to act as a point of contact for all affordable housing issues to aid delivery and promote good working practice

Affordable housing has also been prioritised by the Council under the objective “Making communities and individuals healthier, safer and stronger”.

To meet these priorities we have:

  • Strengthened our internal procedures and links – departments such as Development Control and the Local Strategy Service.
  • Created the role of an Affordable Housing Officer (in post since 2007), who works closely with Parish Councils, Land agents, Developers and RP's (Registered Provider) in order to help identify potential land and assist with the commissioning of Housing Needs Surveys.
  • Strengthened and improved partnership working in recognition of the growth programme - DDC now works alongside, amongst others, the Housing Corporation, Northampton Borough Council and South Northants Council in projects such as the Preferred Management Partners initiative
