Congratulations to…

Walk Leaders Courses

Northamptonshire as a whole are ever expanding the Health Walk Scheme. Daventry’s aim is to accomplish this too. In order to do so it is important to recruit new Health Walk Leader’s.

Being a Health Walk Leader enables you to meet new people, organise and run your own Health Walks, perfect for those who are retired and want something to do with their spare time. Or simply for those who enjoy walking whilst encouraging others to do so. Leading and participating in Health Walks is a great way to enjoy the Daventry District, also great for self-esteem, loneliness, confidence and your HEALTH!

You will be fully supported and form part of a network of leaders in the area. Plus the training is free!

How much walking should I do?

Frequency – Most days of the week (at least 5)

Intensity – At a faster pace than a stroll (enough to raise your heart rate and make you feel warmer and slightly out of breath)

Times – Ideally this should be one continuous session for 30 minutes; however this can be built up with 3 periods of 10 minutes or 2 periods of 15 minutes

Health benefits of walking

We are urging you to include more walking in your everyday life, as it encourages;

  • Greater levels of fitness

  • Keeping you independent for longer

  • Increased flexibility

  • Improved heart and lung condition and fitness

  • Weight Control

  • An increase in energy

The good news is that being active doesn’t mean you have to join the gym or play sport. It means incorporating simple activities such as brisk walking into everyday life.
