The Friends' of Daventry Country Park, in partnership with the Ranger Service, monthly bird survey and the Common Tern Nesting Rafts Scheme.

The Friends' of Daventry Country Park in partnership with the Ranger Service are currently conducting a monthly bird survey.  The survey takes in the whole of Daventry Country Park.  The survey results are recorded each month and displayed in the Friends' notice board on the outside of Reservoir Cottage.  The monthly survey results will be collated together and subjected to stastical analysis on a yearly basis.  These survey results will help us to monitor the positive and negative affects caused by, for example, changing environmental factors to the resident and migrant bird population at Daventry Country Park.

Common Tern Nesting Rafts Scheme: This scheme has been running for nearly a decade.  It was noticed that common terns were using the reservoir to rest and feed on their journey northward from South Africa.  Rangers decided that they should try to simulate the birds breeding conditions.  After much planning and a series of prototypes, a successful tern raft flotilla was created.  These rafts are moored away from the shore.  The Terns have successfully breed on these rafts concurrently for the last nine years.  The design of the rafts is modified each year so as to improve their performance.
