Positive about Disabled People

In keeping with Daventry District Council’s Disability Equality Scheme, the Council is committed to promoting the opportunities of people with disabilities.  The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 defines disability as:

‘a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on the ability to carry out normal day to day activities.’

Our commitments towards promoting equality of opportunity for disabled people through the recruitment process and employment are:

A Guaranteed Job Interview

To interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.

Consulting disabled employees regularly

To ask disabled employees at least once a year what we can do to make sure that they can develop and use their abilities at work.

Keeping employees if they become disabled:

To make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment.

 Improving Knowledge

To take action to ensure that key employees develop the awareness of disability to make the commitments work.

 Checking progress and planning ahead

Each year, to review the commitments and what has been achieved. To plan ways to improve on them and let all employees know about progress and future plans.
