Street Sweeping

Daventry District Council has a street cleansing programme which ensures street sweeping is undertaken on a regular rota basis throughout the district. We currently have 2 road sweepers, a street sweeper and a small footpath sweeper.

Litter picking

What is litter?

Litter can be anything, crisp packets, cigarette ends, a piece of chewing gum, dog waste, which has been dropped on our streets. It is careless activity from people who do not use the litter, cigarette and dog waste bins provided.

Litter is unsightly and is associated with crime and

anti-social behaviour and can lead to areas being perceived as neglected which can discourage people from visiting the area. Litter attracts vermin such as rats and other disease carrying pests which can cause hazards for human health.

Litter is costly to remove and costs the Council thousands of pounds to remove it each year.

Litter, dog and cigarette bins

Littering is an illegal activity and the council have the powers to take enforcement action against those who act illegally. There is no need to drop litter or fail to remove your dogs waste, as there are approximately 750 litter bins and 250 dog located throughout the district. Bins are emptied regularly, at the same time your area is cleansed and new bins are being installed where necessary. Place your rubbish in a litter bin or if there isn't a bin nearby take your rubbish home.

Litter Patrols

Dropping litter is an environmental crime. The law allows councils to issue fines to people who drop litter and if we see you dropping litter or failing to remove your dogs waste you could receive a fine of £75 from the council.
