What is a household waste recycling centre?


A household waste recycling centre (also known as a ‘tip’) is a place where householders can take unwanted rubbish for reuse, recycling or disposal.

When can I go?


The household waste recycling centres are open every day of the year with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Opening Times Weekdays Weekends and Bank Holidays
April - September 8.30 to 7.00pm 8.30 to 5.30pm
October - March 8.30 to 5.00pm 8.30 to 5.00pm

 

 


Recycling Household Waste


Before you visit

 

Ensure you pre-sort your waste so that you can easily deposit your waste in the appropriate container when you visit.

When you visit

 

  • Look for signs that provide information on where to recycle and deposit your waste
  • Park in a convenient location or marked bay for the recyclable containers you intend to use
  • If you need assistance, ask a member of staff.
Why should I recycle?

 

If we reduce, reuse and recycle more of our household rubbish we can:

  • Reduce the need for landfill
  • Save energy
  • Create less pollution
  • Help to conserve raw materials

If you are unsure, on arrival, please ask for assistance and the staff will direct you to the correct skip.


  • Reuse Items ( furnishing, bicycles etc.,)
    — Items that can be purchased from the centre
  • Cardboard
    — Cardboard is pulped and made into new packaging
  • Green Garden Waste
    — Garden waste is composted and reused as a soil conditioner and mulch.
  • Fridges/White Goods (non-commercial i.e.. domestic only)
    — Fridges and freezers are de-polluted and recycled into new metal items
  • Scrap Metal
    — Metal is recycled into a variety of new metal products such as car parts
  • Paper
    — Paper is sent paper mills to be made into new newspapers and packaging
  • Textiles
    — Textiles are reused by exporting to nations in need or recycled into filling materials and wiping cloths
  • Car Batteries
    — Batteries are recycled to recover metals such as lead and plastic
  • Wood
    — Wood is recycled into compressed board for the building industry
  • Engine Oil
    — Oil is processed for reuse as industrial heating fuel
  • Soil
    — Soil is reused for landscaping works
  • Rubble
    — Rubble is reused for construction work
  • Cans & Tins
    — Steel and aluminium are used to make new metal products
  • Glass Bottles & Jars
    — Glass is recycled into new glass containers
  • Plastic Bottles
    — Plastic bottles are granulated and made into new products such as pipes, fleece jumpers and seed traysMobile Phones—Money raised from the recycling of phones goes toward a charity
  • Foil
    — Foil is used to make new metal products
  • Flourescent Tubes & Low energy light bulbs
    — Tubes are crushed and components are recycled
