Under the Public Health Act 1925, it is the council’s responsibility to allocate house numbers and road names to new developments and property conversions. Individuals and developers should not allocate their own house numbers.
The Council is also required to contact Royal Mail to obtain postcodes for new properties. If a property is not ‘registered’ it will not appear on the main address database and the owner or occupier will have difficulty in receiving mail, goods and services from a variety of sources.
