Council and Democracy

Council Chamber

The District Council is responsible for running a number of services in the district.  A considerable amount of the decision making regarding these services is delegated to committees of elected Councillors.


District Councillors

Daventry District Council is composed of 38 Councillors, each of whom is chosen to represent a defined Ward by its electors.  


Committees

Councillors are appointed to sit on various committees.  All Councillors meet together as the Council. The Council is the forum for political debate on policy and strategic matters. 

Parish Councillors

There are 74 Parish Councils within the district, which provide limited local services.

 


Elections

Elections within the district are by thirds, which means that one third of the seats are subject to re-election in each of three successive years, and County Council elections are held every fourth year.
