The Council's system is operated as part of a partnership with Northampton Borough Council and Wellingborough Council. This enables more efficient use of operators and access to equipment of a higher quality than could otherwise be afforded. The system has direct voice and picture links to the control room for the Western Area of Northamptonshire Police - which covers Daventry District.
The system consists of 32 fully mobile cameras and 22 emergency help points. The help points are located in the Council's car parks and bus station around Daventry town centre, and give immediate voice communication to the CCTV monitoring centre.
Linked to the CCTV system is a 'Retail Radio Link,' through which businesses and other organisations in the area can exchange information on suspicious activities with the monitoring centre and, if appropriate, the police. The Retail Radio Link has contributed to a number of significant arrests.

Response
While Daventry District Council and its partners provide the CCTV system which operates in Daventry, Northampton and Wellingborough, response to what is seen is still the responsibility of the police. The CCTV system provides the police controllers with clear information - including showing them live pictures of events - but the police still have to use their judgement in sending officers. At times, all officers may be involved in other incidents, or a worse emergency may exist somewhere outside the CCTV area.

Daventry District Council and its partners are committed to operating the CCTV system within the law and in accordance with human rights. In addition to your legal rights, the partners are committed to operating with a Code of Practice.
