Daventry District Council's land drainage powers only relate to ordinary watercourses (i.e. not main rivers for which the Environment Agency has powers to act ) which are typically ditches, streams and piped watercourses. These powers are provided under the Land Drainage Act which gives Daventry District Council a power rather than a duty to act.
As a Land Drainage Authority the Council provides advice and guidance on matters relating to the Land Drainage Act and can take appropriate action where required. The maintenance of most watercourses is the responsibility of private owners (riparian owners). For further advice e-mail landdrainage@daventrydc.gov.uk or telephone 01327 302445.
