Site 3, located off Eastern Way, offers potential for a major new waterside destination that includes mixed-use development, including residential, office and leisure uses.
Daventry District Council has worked closely with local people and stakeholder organisations to encourage as much feedback as possible on the proposals before submitting the scheme for outline planning permission during Spring 2010.
An indicative master plan shows how Site 3, the canal and basins, could become the ‘natural glue’ between other developments, including the innovative iCon building (Site 4G), proposed retail and leisure on Site 5 and The Learning Quarter (Site 6). The redevelopment will also provide attractive pedestrian links from the existing town centre to these sites and on to Daventry Country Park.
Site 3 which would offer a mix of housing, office and leisure facilities, would be developed and marketed to create an exciting destination for the local population and visitors to the town including potential boaters via the proposed canal link to the Grand Union Canal. The proposed new layout could offer more than 20,000 sq ft of new restaurant and bar space, a hotel, cinema, health club, 70,000 sq ft of offices, potentially creating more than 550 new jobs and 250 new homes.
Indicative designs of how Site 3 could be developed were revealed by appointed architects BDP and property consultants Knight Frank in January 2009.
