Parking in Daventry Town Centre

Thumbnail of carpark map

All public car parks in Daventry town centre offer free parking within the time restrictions displayed in each car park. In general, the more central the space the shorter the time limit.

printable map gives guidance on town centre car park locations and time limits.

Short Stay Parking

Short stay car parks owned or patrolled by Daventry District Council are available with time limits of 3 hours, 1½ hours or 30 minutes.

Please remember that 4 hour non-return periods apply to all of these short stay car parks. This means that once you have left a short stay car park you may not return to that car park - or any other short stay car park - within 4 hrs.

A £60 fine (properly called an Excess Charge) may be incurred if you exceed the time limit, return within 4 hours, or break any other car park regulations.

Tesco car park (P14 on the above map) is owned and patrolled by Tesco who also have time limits and non-return periods and impose fines.

Wherever you choose to park, please read the car park signs carefully.

Long Stay Parking

If you need to park for longer than three hours, then choose a long stay car park marked as "All Day" on the above map. A  new long stay car park has recently opened in conjunction with the Abbey Retail Park. Known as the 'Welton Road Undercroft Car Park', it sits underneath a row of shops and provides 179 car spaces along with motorcycle bays and cycle hoops. Please note that (for safety and security reasons) this car park is locked at night. The normal opening hours for this car park are: 7.30am - 9pm Monday to Friday, and 9am - 6pm on occasional Saturdays and/or Sundays. Please read the signs carefully.

  • Tesco Car Park (P14) which is owned by Tesco. Defects can be reported directly to their store on (01327) 887400

Blue Badge Holder?

If you are a 'Blue Badge' holder there are around 50 spaces specifically allocated to you in the town centre and the above map provides a guide as to where these spaces are located. In addition, you may park for as long as necessary in any of the Council's car parks - including the short stay ones. However, you must park within a proper parking bay because the rule which allows blue badge holders to park on yellow lines does not apply in car parks!

Motorcycles

A motorcycle bay with a secure locking bar has been provided in the Primrose Hill car park. Motorcycles may also use conventional bays, and are not subject to the time limits.

Special Cases - Local Residents

If you live in Daventry town centre, and do not have enough private parking places for the vehicles owned by people who live at your address, you may be eligible for a Residents' Exemption Permit. This allows a vehicle to remain in a short stay car park beyond the normal time limit, and also allows parking in "D1" residents parking bays where these are signed on streets. Residents' Exemption Permits cost:

  • £15 / year for the first vehicle belonging to the residents of a property.
  • £252 / year (or £21 a month) for any further vehicles belonging to people at that property (this is the same as the commercial rate, and is set at this level to prevent property owners not providing their own parking spaces without good reason).
  • There is a further £15 charge if you need to change the details on a permit, or replace a lost permit, during the year. (This, like the 'first vehicle' charge, is simply to cover the Council's administration costs.)
  • Click here for a Residents Application Form.

Special Cases - Local Businesses and Construction Vehicles

The following special purpose permits are available:

  • Temporary Permit: this allows a vehicle used for construction work or similar work to remain in a short stay car park beyond the normal time limit. A temporary permit costs £15 for a period of 28 consecutive days.
  • Business Loading Permit (BLP): this allows a vehicle frequently used either to transport goods to customers, or to transport customers, to remain in a short stay car park beyond the normal time limit. A BLP costs £252 for a year or £21 per month.

(Holders of Temporary Permits or Business Loading Permits must pay a £15 administration charge if they need to change the details on a permit, or replace a lost permit, during the year. )

Special Exemption Permit

This allows a vehicle to remain in a short stay car park beyond the normal time limit. It is only available for people who are engaged in a form of community service which requires quick access to their vehicle - for example, reserve fire fighters. These permits are issued free of charge.
