Houses in multiple occupation
Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO's) are usually houses that have been converted into flats, bed sits or shared properties, which provide affordable accommodation to individuals. In general these are of a satisfactory standard but some may be in a state of disrepair, lacking adequate amenities or fire precautions.
Daventry District Council works in partnership with Northants Fire & Rescue Service to ensure that HMOs are safe and healthy for their occupants.

The council also has a duty to license certain HMOs & these are defined as being
1) three or more storeys high
2) & occupied by five or more persons
3) & it is occupied by persons living in two or more single households

The council are working towards an accreditation scheme for private landlords within the district, in conjunction with the East Midlands Landlord Accreditation Scheme (EMLAS).
