Fly-tipping
Fly-tipping of waste is a national problem and blights our streets and countryside. It is an environmental hazard and can cause pollution. Fly-tipping is also a criminal offence and can result in a fine of up to £50,000 and/or up to five years imprisonment. It also costs the tax payer thousands of pounds every year, as the council is often required to remove and dispose of the waste appropriately.
Fly-tipping is the illegal deposit of waste on land which is not controlled by a waste management licence. Fly-tipping generally consists of large items of rubbish including;

It is unsightly - fly-tipping is a sign of a neglected neighbourhood and is associated with other crimes.

It is illegal - under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 fly-tipping is an offence and offenders can receive up to a £50,000 fine and/or 5 years imprisonment.

It is costly to remove - fly-tipping costs local authorities over £44 million to remove every year.

It is unsafe - fly-tipping can consist of hazardous or toxic waste and syringes which are dangerous to human and animals. Fly-tipping can attract vermin and other disease spreading pests.
What actions are Daventry District Council taking to address fly-tipping?
The council employs a designated fly-tipping crew who will aim to remove waste within 24 hours of the initial report (Mon-Fri). We aim to remove all waste found within the district as part of our patrols to ensure all areas of the district are kept clean and free from rubbish.
The Council offer a charged bulky waste collection which allows collection for 3 items. This service is offered to prevent incidences of fly-tipping. To arrange for a collection please contact the Council using the link below. Alternatively you are able to take your rubbish to the local household recycling centre at Brown's Road, Daventry. The district also has a recycling centre at Brixworth.
Anyone caught flytipping will be prosecuted under the Environment Protection Act 1990. It is illegal to allow someone to dump rubbish on land belonging to you which doesn't have a waste management licence. Anyone caught using a vehicle for flytipping can also have their vehicle seized by the police.

How do I report fly-tipping?
It is vital that if you see waste illegally dumped or being deposited to report it to the council. You can report it here by emailing us with your details at environmentalimprovement@daventrydc.gov.uk or use the link below and call the Council.
Fly-tippers are acting illegally and it's therefore necessary not to:-
- Approach them;
- Obstruct them;
- Touch anything;
If you see someone fly-tipping contact us with the following details:-

Date, time and place where it happened;

What the waste is or appears to be;

Description of the offender;
-
Description of any vehicles involved or the registration number.

How do I dispose of waste that cannot be collected?
Please ensure that you contain all your waste within the bins which are provided to you by the council. By recycling you can reduce the amount of waste you place in your grey bin which is sent for landfill. Further information regarding refuse and recycling can be found here.

To arrange for a collection please contact the Council using the link below. Alternatively you are able to take your rubbish to the local household recycling centre at Browns Road, Daventry.
Alternatively you able to arrange for a waste disposal company to remove your household waste but you are responsible for ensuring the carrier has a valid waste carriers licence and will dispose of your waste correctly. Under the Householders Duty of Care Regulations, failure to undertake such checks can result in enforcement action being taken against you.
