Unfortunately, not all crime is preventable.  However, there are a number of things you can do to make a difference to your safety and security.

Home Security

Care and Repair launched the Stay Safe Scheme in November 2007.  The scheme is targeted at homeowners who are aged 60 years and over and or disabled persons.

The scheme provides:-

·        Door chains

·        Spy holes

·        Window locks

·        Intercoms

·        And several other measures.

Referrals to the scheme are received from:-

·        Northamptonshire Crime Prevention Officers

·        The DASH and Safe ‘n’ Sound projects

·        The householder

A home security check is carried out by Crime Prevention Officers and potential hazards are pointed out to the owners.

Although components such as door chains and intercoms are fitted free of charge it will be necessary to charge for other items, such as additional door locks, window shock alarms etc.

If you are having new doors and windows fitted check the manufacturers and ask for door chains and window locks to be fitted particularly if you are purchasing PVC products.
